This topic is near and dear to my heart because my brother is disabled, he was involved in a major car accident and is now paralyzed from the waste down. I am not religious yet i find myself praying for him to walk again every night and even though having him in my life is the most important thing i wish that life could be a bit easier for him. My concern is all the people out there and how they treat disabled people, I have seen some nasty things in my life and the worst was when my neighbor tried to attack my brother because our dog accidently got loose and ran towards him to play with his dog, mind you, nothing happened to his dog and my dog didn't do anything to him, but the guy got totally defensive and was about to hit my brother, my dad got out and punched the guy in the face and the guy called the cops on my dad and my poor dad was about to be arrested speaking to the cop in broken English and trying to get his point across, we were lucky that one of the cops was Armenian and understood everything. So the question is, how do you guys feel about disabled people? When you meet someone d you automatically assume they are retarded too or do you give them a chance, are you annoyed with them or do you want to help them? For me I was very nonchalant about the subject before my brother, now that I am in those shoes I am more considerate to disabled people.

I always keep hope alive but the doctors said it is permanent, Doctor's have also told me I would die before so I don't really believe everything they say, look at Christopher Reeves before he died and how much he was able to accomplish, I am sure that something can be done, especially with stem cell research.

On the second subject, my parents are scientific thinkers, therefore my father and mother are not religious either. My siblings and I were never babtised and our parents never forced us to believe in anything, they let us choose our own path in life, I am very greatfull for that.

In short, major car accident, concusion and possible brain damage, fractured ribs which later caused bells palsy (paralysis of part of my face, went away after a while) Doctors told me after my paralysis that I was going to loose my eye, which was bull. Also started developing a fast heart rate, they did test after test on my heart and couldn't find anything, my aunt passed away from a heart problem so they told me I would die to, little did they know it was just a severe case of anxiety.

I have Insurance and so does my brother, so Insurance covered everything. I am recovered, although I still suffer from anxiety. My accident was separate from my brothers, I was on the freeway and my mother was driving I thin the tire blew out and my mom lost control of the car, we ended up flipping across the freeway and I was thrown out of the car, was found on the side of the road somewhere, i don't remember anything. My mom cracked her neck, she is alive and doing well now. My brother's accident was also on the freeway, his friend was driving and he was in the backseat, I think the driver was a little tipsy and raising with another car, he lost control after hitting a bump on the road the car fell downhill in between the exit and the freeway.

With that said, Drive carefully everyone, and buckle-up.

Wow I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your brother can walk again. As far as doctors go, I don't believe them either. Some doctors don't know what the hell they are doing. My cousins mom went to see a doctor here, and he said she has breast cancer. She didn't believe him so she went to Russia to double check and the doctors there said she is perfectly fine. Ten years passed and she is still healthy.

Doctors told my Grandfather that he has prostate cancer in his 60's, my father told me that my gfather got real angry and stormed out the clinic saying quote "cuss cuss cuss these stupid doctors i feel fine". he passed away at 83, not from cancer.

I will tell you something you might laugh but it's true. our family doctor is
the 'sanik' of my grandfather altough there are no family links between us.
once he told my mother 'I can't behave with you like I do with odar's'
odar meaning armenians included, people who do not belong to his inner circle

I don’t want to generalize by this statement, so if it comes out that way, I apologize.

Doctors in America, especially HMO insured doctors (i.e. Kaiser Permanente) think they should be able to decide when a person should give up their hope to live, if diagnosed with a disease or illness.

I've seen first hand how they treat sick people; their answer for everything is prescription medicine.
I asked a doctor once, on behalf a patient who had a failing liver after suffering many years from cancer, why he was prescribing such a high dosage of OxyContin, when this drug is compared with illegal drugs such as heroin. The affects are almost identical. His response was that this drug cuts the pain an individual feels, and makes life more bearable.

So I questioned him again, asking if I were to take these drugs being a healthy person, wouldn’t I have side effects similar to that of heroine, or a person diagnosed with chronic disease (i.e. restlessness, body aches, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, depression, the constant need to use this drug, etc.), his response,. yes you would.

Question: Are you aware that these are the main symptoms this individual is suffering from on a daily basis, and that she is not able to differentiate the pain from her cancer to the pain caused from this drug.

Answer: I have no response to that question, look I’m not allowed to talk about this, have a nice day.

Fact: If you question doctors about their methods into prescribing medicine they will get uncomfortable, they are told not to speak about these hi-profile prescriptions since people have begun to question why the negative affects are outdoing the positive ones.

I don’t trust doctors, they have become street pharmacists, drug pushers, every time you need treatment for something the only answer they have is take two of these.
Since when did the human body become a portal for prescription medicine.
Since when did taking pills become the only way to be healthy.

"Contrary to FALSE CLAIMS THAT LESS THAN 1% of PATIENTS GET ADDICTED, the CT Attorney General has stated the addiction rate is around 13% but some feel it is as high as 30%. All Patients (100%) do get physically dependent, which means they will suffer physical SEVERE FLU LIKE WITHDRAWALS IF THEY SUDDENLY STOP TAKING IT."

The last thing any sick person needs is to be addicted to a drug with symptoms like this.

I agree with every word!!! I have Kaiser, when I got into my car accident I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I was given a button to push whenever i wanted Morphine (at this time, i was addicted to cocaine but had been sober for a few months and fighting to stay sober) so i kept my finger on the button until i knocked out. When I was getting closer to being released they prescribed Vicodine (they new about my addiction) and i can refill it whenever i wanted. When i found out how addictive vicodine was i stopped taking them and just managed through the pain. When, i went to the hospital because i couldn't breath they prescribed me zanax, i threw the prescription in the doctors face and told her to choke on the pills herself. I don't want to become a pill popper or go back to being an addict. There are better ways to help people.
